History of the
Delaware-Panama Partners
Founded in 1964, Partners of the Americas has grown to 120 volunteer chapters involved in 60 partnerships throughout the Western Hemisphere.
President John F. Kennedy asked the people of the United States to form a new alliance with our neighbors in the Western Hemisphere. This “Alliance for Progress” was a bold call for citizens of Latin America, the Caribbean and the U.S. to work together to improve economic and social opportunities for their families and communities. The Alliance initiated a novel idea of pairing each state in the U.S. with a country or region in Latin America and the Caribbean, to foster mutual understanding and to provide assistance. These bilateral pairings were erected on the basis of shared economic determinants. Delaware was partnered with Panama.
Partner’s volunteers help to improve the quality of life throughout our hemisphere, while removing misconceptions that block the road to peace. It is the personal commitment held by volunteers that makes us one of the most successful organizations at leveraging small amounts of money into projects worth far more. Partnerships spark innovative ideas, foster cultural understanding and ultimately, produce positive change.
Our work covers areas as diverse as health, emergency preparedness, agriculture, cultural exchange, domestic violence prevention, cultural preservation and local government strengthening.
Partners of the Americas is a private, nonprofit, non-partisan organization. Click here to visit our parent organization's website.
